Morocco has always been a place we wanted to explore. We have always organized and booked our own adventures from the hotels, private drivers, local tours etc.. However, we soon discovered that to really see as much as possible and experience the local life throughout Morocco, it would require an organized tour.

We had never traveled with a group before, so we chose to go with a smaller size group of 12 through G Adventures (National Geographic) Enhanced trips. They use an 18-seater Van with a driver and full-time guide. At each destination they use local tour guides with extensive knowledge. The Enhanced trips are a bit more expensive, stay in very nice accommodations and tend to attract more “Mature” travelers. Our group average age was about 55.

What we liked about the organized trip was we didn’t have to plan a thing. They picked us up at the airport, took us to nice prebooked hotels, transported us to every destination and in most cases provided a lot of the meals. The tour guide educated us on the culture, village life, food etc.. He also was there to assist with any problems or assist with purchases. I had forgotten my backpack at a place and he immediately contacted the place, located it and had it picked up for me.

The small group allowed us to have local experiences such as lunch in family homes. Seeing small “off the beaten path” locations that could only accommodate a small number of people. The van was easy to drive in small alley ways and park.

We had seen the full-size bus type tours where it was difficult to park, long lines to get money exchanged, long queues to get into some of the locations and many of the places we went could not accommodate large groups.

Our group was of the size that we were able to make friends, chat with everyone and felt as though we were truly sharing this journey with like-minded travelers. Half of our group traveled solo, which made it easy for them.

To see a large country like Morocco, in a short period of time, the organized small-group tour is a must. No worries, great once in a lifetime experience and very educational.
